Grass roots motorsport since 1965
As part of our commitment to:
We donate a small environmental levy from our events to offset the CO2 produced by all competing vehicles, and that of the South Hams Motor Club organisers on the event. We invest this in a local tree planting scheme offered by local charity MOOR TREES based in South Brent, to permanently offset the carbon produced and to achieve net-zero carbon for our events.
We started our programme of offsetting back in 2007...
"The South Hams Motor Club is proud to have promoted motorsport in the Westcountry for 40 years. Looking towards a sustainable future the club is commencing a programme of environmental awareness in its sporting events and club administration. Increasingly aware of climate change and the pressures of carbon emissions on the environment, the start of our new policy commences with the 2007 Audi South West Endurance Rally where all entries have been asked to make a donation towards offsetting carbon emissions.
£5 has been included in the entry fee and will go towards the cost of a tree planting programme taking place in the South Hams. To offset these emissions, deciduous native trees will be planted by the members of the motor club with additional consideration to local landscape and wildlife to increase environmental value.
This is the first step towards “greening” the sport and we anticipate a good reception by our members and the event competitors. In the future, we will be investigating and implementing energy reducing and recycling practices in addition to increasing the awareness of issues such as bio-fuels, fuel efficiency, research and technology in line with the UK Climate Change Programme."
We donate a small environmental levy from our events to offset the CO2 produced by all competing vehicles, and that of the South Hams Motor Club organisers on the event, including Committee meetings.
During the Autumn of 2009 a total of 153 trees have been planted by Moor Trees to offset the carbon emissions produced during the Audi South West Endurance Rallies. Each crew contributed £5 with their entry to fund this green initiative.
Following the 2013 South West Endurance Rally we arranged for local company Moor Trees to plant 56 trees.
The trees have been planted at Hannah's at Seale Hayne just outside Newton Abbot, South Devon. The club have used the roads within the Estate (when it was a college) so it is great to see the trees planted on site.

SUMMARY
486 trees planted to offset 243 tonnes CO2
Following a gap in our programme, we returned to the tree planting scheme in 2022 as part of our efforts to reduce our impact on the environment. The Club has engaged with South Brent based charity MOOR TREES who are proud to be more than just tree planters – they are restoring entire landscapes, creating thriving habitats and sequestering carbon for generations to come.
Our club’s support doesn't just plant trees, it nurtures hundreds more, ensuring a vibrant, biodiverse future for Dartmoor.
